The CatGenie is much more hygienic than a conventional litter box, both for cats and humans. It is also easier to clean, and faster because all you do is push a button and you are out the door. And despite the initial cost of the unit, it is cheaper to maintain in the long run...I would change out the litter in the box twice a week to control the smell from 2 cats, and I probably "paid" for the CatGenie 3 times over before actually purchasing the unit. It also smells great as the cleaning cycle ends, thanks to the cleaning solution. As a bonus, it provides my cats with about 20 minutes of entertainment every time I run the cycle. They sit by the CatGenie and watch it clean itself, just like we would sit and watch TV!

MY TOP THREE BENEFITS of the CatGenie include that it is sanitary, I never have to scoop, and it is easy to take apart and clean. The sanitary feature is appealing on many levels: for bacteria control, for the environment, and for a clean litter box. I have always been concerned that my litter box was a mess of germs. The time I would spend cleaning and sanitizing my scoop litter box was overwhelming and stressful. It was frustrating to realize that after I had washed out the litter box, it would be dirty immediately after the first use. With CatGenie, these worries are eliminated. I am also conscious about the waste that would go into landfills. In fact, I purchased a natural litter that was flushable because I believe that waste should go into the sewer for proper treatment. I feel even better knowing that the CatGenie doesn't require dumping any clumping litter into the sewage treatment plant. Now, only the real waste goes down the toilet. Finally, Charlie is a very picky cat when it comes to a clean litter box. If it is not scooped to his standards, then he will not use it. So it comes as a great relief that I will no longer have to worry about the litter box not being clean enough for him.

We saw these questions about the CatGenie on one of the Bulletin Boards.
We figure others may be wondering what the answers are.
“That looks intriguing, but I see several drawbacks:”
1) “It’s fairly small. Cats like to have room to maneuver in their litter boxes.”
ANSWER: CatGenie owners are surprised how accommodating it is. They say that the cat space is larger than it appears in pictures on the website. The CatGenie is 230 square inches. Most litter boxes are 196 square inches. Large boxes are 236 square inches. To maximize the cat space, the CatGenie rounded the corners
2) “What if you have a cat that likes to urinate on the side of the box.”
ANSWER: The sides are quite high. 7 inches. Engineers are designing sides for those cats or customers who want it open but want/need higher sides for high standing whizzes and for big flingers
3) “It needs to be located in a bathroom (or other room with water tap and drain).”
ANSWER: Yep. It’s an appliance. Just like our homes have places for Clothes Washers, Dish Washers, toilets, etc. Because the CatGenie is so sanitary, it's easier, cleaner, and safer to live with than a litter box.
4) “It looks like an SOB to clean (and it is going to need periodic cleaning).”
ANSWER: Takes 20 minutes, twice a year. The Unit is so well designed, it comes apart as easily as taking off clothes. Wash it out in a tub or with a garden hose. Don’t forget, the insides are totally washed, sanitized and dried at least once a day. So the cat area is always cleaned. The biggest reason for periodic cleaning is to clear out fur from the impeller. That's the thing that safely liquefies the solids.
5) “It’s not going to handle soft, semi-solid waste very well. The scoop is going to get gunked up.”
ANSWER: Actually the opposite is true. The GenieHand not only scoops solids, it also pulverizes the small or liquidity stuff. All that is watered down, sanitized and flushed.
6) “What if it's in cleaning mode when your cat wants to go?”
ANSWER: The CatGenie has sensors that stop the process if set in Auto Start mode. Cat behaviors point out that cats sleep from 15 to 20 hours a day. Veterinarians learn that cats defecate within a half hour of eating a main meal. Schedule to run it while cats sleep and after cats have eaten.
7) Looks like I'll lose the use of a toilet.
ANSWER: Not true. The Genie Drainhook goes between the toilet rim and the toilet seat. You'll have unimpeded use of the toilet even during CatGenie cleaning.

I teach an MBA course on IPOs And Venture Capital, and an undergraduate class on Investment Banking And Private Equity, both of which spend some time looking at start-ups and young, private companies. Maybe someday someone will do a case study on PetNovations, and I can use it for my class!
Hopefully you'll be hearing from me again, or I'll be hearing from you, since I'm on the waiting list twice. I originally signed up under the 'sign up early' offer rather than the Litterfree owners offer, since your website said something about trading in my Litterfree, and at the time I wanted to keep it. Later, I read on the Automatic Litterbox Central forum that we only needed to send in the code on our Litterfree, rather than literally mailing you the whole unit.
Now that I've seen how well the CatGenie works, I want two of them and am willing to give away my old Litterfree, with several unused cartridges of solution, to anyone that wants it. When my name comes up again on the CatGenie list, I'll once again jump at the chance to buy one (and you're welcome to quote me).
You have a great product. I'm sure that your hard work developing it will pay off. If you ever decide to go public, please let me know! I advised Google on their IPO - I'm not a fan of auctions, and they did one anyway, so I couldn't have had much influence, but it was great experience for me. Hi, I’m Ed and I finally received my CatGenie. I heard about the self-washing cat toilet from a friend of a friend last December. I ordered one back in January. Loved the concept. The reality is even better. One word: WOW. This thing works great. It takes care of the cats. They immediately used the CatGenie and accepted the Washable Granules, which look and feel like idealized litter. It takes care of us, in that it cleans out the mess and washes not only the granules also the sides of the cat bowl. Uses a special soap and water. You never saw clean like this. Everything up to now has been a joke. We finally got rid of that open sewer called a litter box.
The CatGenie design is so slick. The four parts that we assemble go together perfectly and quickly. The scoop that removes the solids shakes off excess granules so that very little is lost. It’s quiet. It’s dependable. The CatGenie is a cat box that fits right in and is easy to live with. This is a cat bathroom the way it should always have been: smart, modern, and sanitary.

I have my Cat Genie. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Bottom line: it works.
When I got a competitor's self-scooping (NOT self-washing) box, I was disappointed within about 5 minutes - I'm supposed to clean it every week? It doesn't scoop all the way to the bottom? (Don't they know cats bury things? Have they actually met a cat?) Also, if I threw out the waste receptacles every time they filled, I'd spend a fortune. So I was emptying and reusing them, meaning I still had contact with cat waste, and the receptacles were flimsy and their lids didn't really stay on very well... and... I don't have time to list all the things I didn't like about my self-scooper. Suffice it to say, I found it MORE work than a regular litterbox, and returned sadly to the old standby. "When," I wondered, "When, oh when will I find a really good way to deal with cat waste? I have THREE cats, what are the odds I could train all of them to use the toilet?"
Disappointment, farewell! Smelly work, adieu! The Cat Genie is the most brilliant invention ever; it is so beauteous it brings tears of joy to my eyes. The liquid waste draining out the bottom is one stroke of genius. With regular litter, clumps, of course, fall apart fairly easily, making it difficult to remove all the waste. The Cat Genie solves this problem by replacing clumping with draining and washing - so simple and sensible when you think about it, but so innovative when no one else has thought of it before! Then there's the design of the Genie Hand for scooping solid waste. Not only does it scoop to the bottom, but also it actually is designed to shake off excess granules just as you would if you were scooping. The repetitions built into the process are also impressive. The inventors did not make the mistake of assuming that everything could be taken care of in one sweep. Having the Cat Genie scoop twice per cleaning cycles, wash THREE times, and dry for an extended period makes it extremely thorough and effective.
Some may balk at the cost, but shouldn't. I paid about $100 for my old self-scooper, but it did not improve my life; rather, it created more work and higher monthly costs - that makes it a bad deal. To pay more for something of excellent quality that actually does improve life, is just good sense. And given how drastically the Cat Genie has improved my life, I'd say it's a bargain!
I can no longer imagine life without a Cat Genie. I would find it completely unacceptable. It's like thinking about going back to hand-washing dishes after having a dishwasher, except much more horrifying.
